Microsoft Corp. Yesterday warned users of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) that they won't be able to uninstall either the service pack or Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) under some circumstances. Photodex proshow download.

Original title: Windows XP SP3, Internet Explorer 8; Hang at first (system) start only, close and open again works until next reboot and logon; reproducible on multiple workstations here

Situation:
Windows XP SP3
Internet Explorer 8
IE8 is started automatically at user logon
Some settings are controlled by using GPO settings

Since last week (and it's not clear what happened to some or all of the systems) several users are complaining that while they logon to their workstation and Internet Explorer 8 is automatically opened it just hangs.
Some only see just the toolbars but the frame is lookthrough to the desktop background, some have a white frame but in both cases IE8 just hangs.

  1. IE8 Won't Display Microsoft HTTPS sites - posted in Windows XP Home and Professional: I have had to do a clean install of XP and IE8 on two older laptops. Tried to connect to Microsoft Downloads.
  2. Mar 19, 2009  IE8-WindowsServer2003-x64-ENU.exe. Date Published: 3/19/2009. File Size: 32.4 MB. Internet Explorer 8 is the latest version of the familiar web browser you are most comfortable using, helping you get everything you want from the web faster, easier, more privately and securely than ever before. 3. I have Windows XP SP3 with a IE7 installed and when i updated the OS from Windows Update it asked to install the IE8 so i said Sure go ahead. Now the IE8 Gives me a message Like:-Iexplore.exe - Ordinal Not Found. The Ordinal 650 Could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library iertutil.dll.

But all state that if they close that hanging session they are able to open Interenet Explorer 8 after that without any issues. Until they reboot the machine and logon again the next day, the process starts from the beginning again.

Does anybody have the same experience or better yet: a solution? :-)

We've looked using filemon, regmon, processmon but nothing out of the ordinary seems to be happening.
I've read that clicking the reset button in some cases helps but I personally in an Enterprice environment think that that is to rough of a solution to implement at the users; I'd like to see a specific pointer to files, a regkey or multiple regkeys that are causing the issue so we can specifically target that as a solution for the users.

If all else fails.. read the manual. Hi,
